Your Home Is Our Small Church, and Church Should Be Like a Home for Us
By Chris N. Braza
In many ways, our homes serve as a small church—a place where faith is nurtured, prayers are lifted, and love is shared. At the same time, the church should feel like home—a sanctuary where we find comfort, acceptance, and a deeper connection with God and others. When we embrace this perspective, we create a seamless relationship between faith in our daily lives and our worship in God’s house.
The Home as a Small Church
Our homes are the first place where faith takes root. The Bible reminds us in Deuteronomy 6:6-7, "These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."
Faith is not just something we experience on Sundays; it should be woven into our daily lives. Whether through family devotions, shared meals, or acts of kindness, our homes become small churches where we teach and live out the love of Christ.
The Church as a Home
Just as our homes should reflect God’s presence, the church should feel like a home—a place where everyone belongs. The early church modeled this beautifully in Acts 2:42-47, where believers shared meals, prayed together, and supported one another as a family.
A church that feels like home is one where:
- People are welcomed with warmth and love.
- Prayers are spoken for one another, just like a family does.
- Fellowship is built, not just through services but through relationships.
- Grace is given freely, knowing that no one is perfect.
Bridging the Two Together
When we see our homes as small churches and our churches as homes, we create a faith that is alive in both spaces. Our faith is not limited to a building, nor should it be separate from our daily lives. Instead, we should:
- Bring the peace, love, and worship of the church into our homes.
- Carry the warmth, hospitality, and unity of home into our church.
A Call to Live in Faith
Let us be intentional in making our homes places of faith and ensuring that our churches feel like a welcoming family. When we do this, we reflect God’s heart—one that desires for His people to live in love, unity, and His everlasting presence.
May our homes be a reflection of Christ’s church, and may our churches feel like the home God has prepared for us all.
Be blessed beyond measure!
