🙏 A.S.K. – The Godly Art of Asking
By Pastor Chris N. Braza
As a pastor and educator, I’ve come to appreciate the deep power of communication—not just between people, but between us and God. One of the most beautiful lessons I continue to learn and teach is that asking isn’t just about getting what we want—it’s about growing in trust, relationship, and purpose.
In both prayer and everyday life, we often hesitate to ask for help or guidance. We fear rejection, judgment, or simply being ignored. But God’s Word gives us a powerful promise in Matthew 7:7 (NIV):
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
This Scripture inspired me to create a simple yet powerful acronym for more meaningful asking—whether in prayer, in family, in leadership, or even in times of need.
Let me share with you the A.S.K. principle:
💛 A – Appreciate
Before we ask, let’s start by appreciating. Gratitude changes the atmosphere of our hearts. When we come before God—or anyone else—with a spirit of thankfulness, it reflects humility and awareness.
Appreciation honors the giver. It reminds us that everything we have is a blessing—not a burden—and that we are not entitled, but entrusted.
🎯 S – Specify
Vague requests often bring vague results. When you ask God (or anyone), be specific. Jesus didn’t shy away from exact prayers. The blind man cried, “Lord, I want to see!” (Mark 10:51). Jesus already knew—but the man’s clarity was an act of faith.
Clarity brings direction. Specificity helps you recognize when the prayer is answered.
🙌 K – Keep the Faith
Sometimes we ask and feel like nothing is happening. That’s when this third principle becomes crucial: Keep the faith. Don’t let delays discourage you. Keep praying, keep trusting, keep believing. God answers on time—every time.
Faith is not just believing in the answer—it’s trusting in the Answerer. He knows when, where, and how.
Staying faithful and sincere opens doors that frustration cannot. In due time, the harvest will come.
🔑 The A.S.K. Lifestyle
Learning to A.S.K. is more than just a formula—it’s a spiritual posture. It teaches us humility, faith, and grace. Whether you're a parent, a student, a leader, or a child learning how to pray, this simple guide can shape how you talk to God and others.
Let’s raise a generation—at home, in school, in church—that knows how to ask with gratitude, clarity, and faith.
Remember: God is always listening. Sometimes all He’s waiting for… is for us to A.S.K.
