WHO PUTS LEADERS INTO POSITION?
By Chris N. Braza
In a world where influence is currency and power is often pursued at all costs, it is easy to believe that human strategy, ambition, or popularity alone are the forces that elevate a leader. But let us pause and ask a deeper, more profound question: Who truly puts leaders into position?
The answer lies not in man’s hands but in God’s sovereign will.
Romans 13:1 says, “There is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” This truth shakes the foundation of worldly leadership and shifts our focus back to the One who rules over all. Whether a leader rises from the dust of obscurity or emerges from a long legacy, it is God who appoints and allows every seat of authority to be filled.
This does not mean every leader behaves righteously or leads justly. History shows us tyrants and saints alike have held power. But even in confusion, God’s higher purpose remains at work. Sometimes, He raises leaders to bless a people. Other times, He allows the rise of flawed leadership to awaken hearts, draw nations to repentance, or prepare the way for a greater move of His Spirit.
As a pastor and educator, I have seen how leadership—whether in the pulpit, classroom, or government—carries both power and deep responsibility. A leader is not simply a decision-maker; a leader is a servant, entrusted by God for a specific time, to accomplish a divine assignment.
So, what does this mean for us?
In a world constantly looking for strong leaders, let us not forget: the strongest leaders are those placed by God, walking in humility, vision, and obedience. Let us honor His authority by honoring the leaders He has allowed, and let us be faithful stewards of the leadership roles He gives to us.
Leadership is not seized. It is entrusted. And the One who entrusts it—is God.
