What Does "Money Answers Everything" Really Mean?

— Lessons from Ecclesiastes 10:19

“A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes life merry, but money is the answer for everything.”
Ecclesiastes 10:19

Let’s be honest: this verse sounds a little surprising, doesn’t it?
Feasting, fun, and then — “money answers everything”? Wait… what?

At first glance, Ecclesiastes 10:19 feels like something you'd hear in a business seminar, not in the Bible. But before we jump to conclusions, let’s unpack what King Solomon was really saying — and how it can teach us to live wisely in a world obsessed with pleasure and possessions.

Here are 3 powerful truths to remember from this eye-opening verse:

1️⃣ Life’s Pleasures Are Good… But Temporary

“A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes life merry…”

Solomon isn’t condemning celebration here. He’s just being real — people love to eat, drink, and have fun. And God does allow us to enjoy life! But these things are not the source of true joy. Laughter fades, wine runs out, parties end. Joy that lasts doesn’t come from the table — it comes from the heart anchored in God.

Remember: Enjoy the feast, but don’t forget Who provides it.
Let your happiness be rooted in the Giver, not just the gift.

2️⃣ Money Is a Tool — Not a Savior

“…but money is the answer for everything.”

Here’s where it gets interesting. Is Solomon saying money is the solution to all our problems? Not quite. What he means is that in everyday, practical life, money opens doors. It pays for feasts. It funds projects. It keeps things running. That’s just reality.

But it’s not the answer to life’s deepest questions. It can buy a house, not a home. It can cover a wedding, but not guarantee love. It can fund a church building, but not spiritual revival.

Remember: Money is powerful, but it’s not all-powerful.
Use it wisely — don’t worship it.

3️⃣ Don’t Forget the Bigger Picture

Ecclesiastes is full of reflections on life “under the sun” — that is, life from a human viewpoint, without God in the picture. When Solomon says money answers everything, he’s describing what people believe when they leave God out of the equation.

But we know better.

God's Word teaches us that faith, wisdom, and love matter far more than what money can buy. The world may chase wealth, but believers chase Christ.

Remember: Life makes more sense when you look above the sun — with eternity in view.

 Final Thoughts

Ecclesiastes 10:19 isn’t a call to worship money — it’s a reminder to see life clearly. Enjoy your blessings. Handle money with wisdom. But always know that God is your true source.

So next time you read, “money answers everything,” let it remind you not to trust in your wallet — but in the One who holds your future.

 Reflection Question:
How can I enjoy life and use money wisely without letting them rule my heart?
