“He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.”

Life has its way of pulling us down—sometimes deeper than we ever imagined we’d go. There are seasons when it feels like we are stuck in a pit, trapped in darkness, drowning in fear, sin, regret, or pain. The miry clay beneath our feet symbolizes instability, confusion, and hopelessness. It is in these low, messy places where we often meet the power of God most personally.

Psalm 40:2 is a powerful testimony—David, the psalmist, paints a picture of divine rescue. He wasn't just in trouble; he was in a "horrible pit"—dark, hopeless, and full of despair. But God did not leave him there.

“He brought me up.”
This is the miracle of grace. We don’t climb out by our own strength. The hand of God reaches deep into our brokenness and gently, yet powerfully, lifts us out. He doesn’t just take us from somewhere; He also places us onto something stronger—“a rock.”

That Rock is Jesus. In Him, we find stability, purpose, and a new direction. When God sets our feet upon the rock, He doesn't leave us idle. The verse continues—“and established my goings.” This means God doesn't just rescue; He restores. He gives us a path to walk on, a direction to follow, and a reason to keep moving forward.

REFLECTION:

Have you ever felt stuck in a “horrible pit”? Maybe you're there now. The good news is, God sees you. His hand is not too short to save, and His love is deeper than any hole you’ve fallen into. Call to Him. Wait patiently like David did (see verse 1). He will lift you up.

This verse reminds us that our past doesn’t define our future, and that with God, our lowest moment can be the starting point of a glorious testimony.

DECLARATION:

“Lord, I may have been in the pit, but I declare today that You are lifting me up. You are setting my feet on the Rock of Jesus. You are establishing my steps. My story is being rewritten by Your hand of mercy!”

FINAL WORD:

From the pit to the rock—that’s the journey of grace.
Let Psalm 40:2 be your anthem. When others ask how you made it through, tell them:
“The Lord brought me up.”

Ito ang hiwaga ng biyaya. Hindi tayo ang umaakyat palabas gamit ang sarili nating lakas. Ang kamay ng Diyos ang siyang bumaba sa ating kalaliman, at maingat—ngunit may kapangyarihan—tayong iniahon.

At hindi lang Niya tayo inaahon, inilalagay Niya tayo sa “matibay na batuhan.”
Ang batong iyon ay walang iba kundi si Hesus. Sa Kanya, makakahanap tayo ng katatagan, direksyon, at bagong simula. At hindi roon natatapos ang kwento—“pinatatag ang aking paglakad.”
Ibig sabihin, kapag iniligtas tayo ng Diyos, hindi lang Niya tayo inilalayo sa problema—binibigyan Niya tayo ng panibagong layunin at direksyon.

PAGNINILAY:

Naranasan mo na bang mapunta sa “balon ng kapahamakan”?
Baka ngayon ay naroroon ka pa.
Ang mabuting balita: nakikita ka ng Diyos.
Ang Kanyang kamay ay handang umabot.
Ang Kanyang pagmamahal ay mas malalim kaysa sa hukay ng iyong pinagdaraanan. Manalangin. Manampalataya. Maghintay tulad ni David (tingnan ang talatang 1). Siya’y aahon sa iyo.

Ang talatang ito ay paalala na ang nakaraan mo ay hindi hadlang sa kinabukasan mo.
Sa Diyos, ang pinakamababang yugto ng iyong buhay ay maaaring maging simula ng isang maluwalhating patotoo.

PAGPAPAHAYAG:

“Panginoon, maaaring ako’y nasa hukay noon, ngunit ipinahahayag ko ngayon na Iniahon Mo ako. Itinatag Mo ang aking mga paa sa Batong si Hesus. Itinatag Mo ang aking landas. Binabago Mo ang aking kwento sa pamamagitan ng Iyong biyaya.”

HULING PAALALA:

Mula sa hukay patungo sa bato—iyan ang biyaya ng Diyos.
Gawin mong Awit 40:2 ang awit ng iyong buhay.
At kapag may nagtanong kung paano ka nakaligtas, buong puso mong sabihin:
“Iniahon ako ng Panginoon.”
