The three key stages of salvation are: Justification, Sanctification, and Glorification. These terms represent different aspects of what God does in the life of a believer, from the moment of salvation to the final state of perfection in eternity.

1. Justification:

  • Definition: Justification is the declaration by God that a person is righteous on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ.

  • What happens: When you place your faith in Jesus, God forgives your sins and declares you righteous because of what Christ did on the cross (His death and resurrection).

  • How it happens: This is a one-time act that occurs when you first believe in Jesus. It is not based on your own good works but entirely on Jesus' work on your behalf.

  • Result: You are freed from the penalty of sin (eternal separation from God).

  • Key Verse: “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” — Romans 5:1

2. Sanctification:

  • Definition: Sanctification is the process of being made holy—the believer grows to be more like Christ over time. It involves the renewal of the believer's heart and mind.

  • What happens: After justification, the Holy Spirit begins to work in your life, transforming you to reflect Christ's character. This involves turning away from sin and growing in virtues like love, humility, patience, and kindness.

  • How it happens: Sanctification is a lifelong process. It doesn’t happen all at once but involves spiritual growth as the believer matures in faith. It happens through prayer, reading the Bible, fellowship, and yielding to the work of the Holy Spirit.

  • Result: You are freed from the power of sin. While you are still capable of sinning, the grip of sin over your life begins to loosen as you become more Christlike.

  • Key Verse: “For this is the will of God, your sanctification…” — 1 Thessalonians 4:3

3. Glorification:

  • Definition: Glorification is the final transformation when believers receive perfect, eternal bodies and are fully and completely free from the presence of sin.

  • What happens: This occurs when Jesus returns and raises the dead in Christ to new life, giving them resurrected bodies. Believers will be perfectly conformed to the image of Christ, with no sin or suffering remaining.

  • How it happens: Glorification happens at the second coming of Christ. It is the culmination of the salvation process where believers are given perfect bodies and experience eternal fellowship with God.

  • Result: You are freed from the presence of sin. You will be in perfect communion with God forever, free from pain, death, or any imperfection.

  • Key Verse: “We know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” — 1 John 3:2

Summary of the Three Stages:

  1. Justification: Declared righteous (freed from the penalty of sin). This happens once when you believe in Christ.

  2. Sanctification: Being made holy (freed from the power of sin). This is a lifelong process of growth.

  3. Glorification: Made perfect (freed from the presence of sin). This happens when Christ returns and we receive our new, glorified bodies.

In a nutshell:

  • Justification: You’re saved from the penalty of sin (Christ’s sacrifice).

  • Sanctification: You’re being saved from the power of sin (the Holy Spirit’s work in you).

  • Glorification: You will be saved from the presence of sin (perfect in heaven with God).

These three stages are all parts of God’s complete work of salvation in your life, from the moment you believe in Jesus to the day you are made perfect in His presence.

BE BLESSED BEYOND MEASURE!
