TO LIVE IS CHRIST AND TO DIE IS GAIN
(Philippians 1:21)
Reflection:
1. To Live is Christ:
-
Life is not simply about existing or pursuing fleeting pleasures. For us believers, living is Christ means that our everyday actions, thoughts, and relationships should reflect Him. It means our work, our family life, our service to others — all should point back to Jesus.
-
When Christ is the focus of our life, we have purpose in every moment. Whether in struggles or triumphs, the joy of living comes from knowing we are fulfilling His will.
-
How do we live for Christ today? We are called to be His witnesses in every sphere we enter, living not for ourselves but for His glory.
2. To Die is Gain:
-
To the world, death may seem like the ultimate loss, a tragic end. But for the Christian, death is a transition to something much greater: the eternal presence of God.
-
Why is death gain? Because death is the doorway to eternal life with Christ. We are promised that, absent from the body, we are present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). In death, we receive the full reward of being with Christ forever.
-
When facing death, we do not fear, but anticipate. Death is not a defeat; it is the completion of our journey toward an eternal reward.
Living for Christ means embracing each day as an opportunity to serve and glorify Him. Whether in life or death, our goal remains the same — that Christ would be magnified in all things.
-
How does this apply to us?
-
We might face struggles that feel like life is hard, but remember, to live is Christ — our joy is not in circumstances, but in knowing Christ.
-
We might be afraid of what death means, but remember, to die is gain — it’s the beginning of a new, eternal chapter in God’s presence.
-
Scripture to Reflect On:
-
Philippians 1:21 — “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
-
2 Corinthians 5:8 — “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
-
John 14:2-3 — “In my Father’s house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you.”
Action Steps:
-
Live with Purpose: Every day, ask yourself: “How can I glorify Christ today in my work, in my relationships, in my service?”
-
Embrace the Eternal Perspective: Reflect on the fact that death is not an enemy for the believer; it’s a gain. Seek comfort in the promise of eternal life with Christ.
-
Share the Hope: As you live for Christ, share this hope with others. Life’s meaning is found in Him, and death is not something to fear but to look forward to.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to live with Christ at the center of all I do. May every moment reflect Your glory and purpose. And when my time comes, may I be ready, knowing that to die is gain. Help me to hold fast to the hope of eternal life with You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
