📖 Isaiah 1:23–24 (NIV)
“Your rulers are rebels,
partners with thieves;
they all love bribes
and chase after gifts.
They do not defend the cause of the fatherless;
the widow’s case does not come before them.
Therefore the Lord, the Lord Almighty,
the Mighty One of Israel, declares:
‘Ah! I will vent my wrath on my foes
and avenge myself on my enemies.’”
WHO’S RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FLOOD: GOD OR GOVERNMENT?
The flood itself — as a natural phenomenon — is part of the world God created. But the disaster that floods cause is often the result of human negligence, corruption, and disobedience.
Isaiah 1:23–24 shows that God holds leaders accountable when they become corrupt, selfish, and unjust — when they ignore the needs of the people and abuse their positions.
In this sense, the government bears responsibility when flooding becomes worse because of:
-
Corruption in infrastructure and flood control projects
-
Neglect in drainage systems and river management
-
Illegal logging and poor urban planning
-
Failure to care for the poor and vulnerable who suffer the most during disasters
God may allow floods as part of nature or as a wake-up call — not to destroy, but to expose the corruption and injustice that harm His people.
Isaiah’s message shows that God is not the author of chaos, but He uses calamities to reveal truth and call for repentance.
Reflection:
When floods come, instead of blaming God, we should ask:
-
Have we been faithful stewards of the land He gave us?
-
Have our leaders governed with integrity and compassion?
-
Have we, as citizens, done our part in righteousness and responsibility?
Because while God controls nature, humans control their choices.
And when leaders choose greed over justice, the land itself suffers — just as Isaiah warned.
Conclusion:
God is not to blame for the flood — He is the one calling us to repentance and reform.
But when the government becomes corrupt, ignoring the cries of the people, judgment follows not as punishment, but as correction.
“Righteousness exalts a nation,
but sin condemns any people.” — Proverbs 14:34
📖 Isaias 1:23–24 (MBBTAG)
