Managing Our Tongue, Time, and Talent: A Biblical Path to True Treasure

By Chris N. Braza – Soul Care Ministry

In a world obsessed with accumulation, God invites us to a deeper accounting—not of what we own, but of how we steward what He has entrusted to us. Scripture consistently points us to three everyday gifts that shape our destiny: our tongue, our time, and our talent. How we manage these reveals where our treasure truly lies.

1) Managing Our Tongue: Words That Build Eternal Value

The tongue may be small, but it carries enormous power. Our words can heal or harm, bless or burden, guide or mislead. Jesus reminds us that words flow from the heart; they expose what we truly value.

Biblical wisdom calls us to speak truth in love, to be slow to speak and quick to listen, and to avoid careless words that wound others or dishonor God. Every conversation becomes a spiritual transaction. When our speech is seasoned with grace, we store up treasure that cannot be stolen—changed lives, restored relationships, and a clear conscience before God.

Ask yourself: Do my words point people toward hope, truth, and Christ—or toward pride, anger, and division?

2) Managing Our Time: Living With Eternal Urgency

Time is the great equalizer. We all receive the same 24 hours, yet Scripture urges us to “redeem the time” because our days are limited and precious. Time wasted is opportunity lost—but time invested in God’s purposes multiplies beyond our lifetime.

Biblical stewardship of time means aligning our schedules with our calling. It means choosing prayer over panic, obedience over busyness, and presence over distraction. When we order our days around God’s priorities, our lives gain clarity and peace.

Ask yourself: Does the way I spend my time reflect what I claim to believe?

3) Managing Our Talent: Faithful Use of God-Given Gifts

Talent is not given for applause; it is entrusted for service. Scripture teaches that gifts come from God and are meant to build others up, not inflate ourselves. Whether our talents are visible or hidden, great or modest, faithfulness—not fame—is the measure of success in God’s Kingdom.

When we bury our gifts in fear or misuse them for selfish gain, we lose eternal reward. But when we offer our skills back to God—teaching, leading, creating, serving—we participate in His redemptive work and store treasure in heaven.

Ask yourself: Am I using my gifts to glorify God or merely to promote myself?

The Treasure That Truly Lasts

Jesus taught that where our treasure is, our heart will be also. The biblical perspective on wealth goes far beyond money. Our tongue, time, and talent are daily opportunities to invest in eternity. When surrendered to God, they produce a harvest that outlives us—changed hearts, transformed communities, and glory given back to Him.

Let us steward these gifts wisely. Not for temporary recognition, but for lasting reward. Not for earthly applause, but for the words we long to hear one day: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Prayer:
Lord, teach us to guard our words, redeem our time, and offer our talents to You. Align our hearts with Your Kingdom, that our lives may store up treasure that lasts forever. Amen.
