The Most Expensive Thing in This World Is Love, Not Trust
By Soul Care Ministry of Chris N. Braza
Many say, “Trust is the most expensive thing in the world.”
I understand why. Trust, once broken, is hard to rebuild. But Scripture invites us to look deeper—and when we do, we discover something even more costly.
The most expensive thing in this world is not trust. It is love.
Why? Because trust can be given with words, promises, and intentions.
Love, according to God, must be proven by action, and action always costs something.
Love Is Not Cheap
The Bible never defines love as a feeling alone. God defines love as sacrifice.
“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
— 1 John 3:18
Words are easy. Declarations are cheap.
But action demands time, effort, patience, forgiveness, and sometimes pain.
Love costs:
-
When you forgive even when you are justified to walk away
-
When you stay present instead of becoming indifferent
-
When you serve without applause
-
When you give even when you are tired, wounded, or misunderstood
That is why love is expensive—it demands your life, not just your lips.
Trust Can Be Requested; Love Must Be Demonstrated
People often say, “Trust me.”
But God never says, “Just say you love Me.”
Jesus didn’t ask Peter, “Do you trust Me?”
He asked, “Do you love Me?”
And every time Peter answered yes, Jesus replied with an assignment:
“Feed My sheep.” (John 21)
In other words:
If you love, there will be work. If you love, there will be responsibility.
Trust may open a door.
But love is what keeps walking through it, day after day.
The Cross Proves the Price of Love
If love were cheap, the cross would not be necessary.
“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
— Romans 5:8
God didn’t send an explanation.
He sent His Son.
The cross tells us this truth clearly:
Real love bleeds. Real love gives. Real love stays.
Why Many Avoid Love
People say love hurts—but that’s only half the truth.
Love hurts because it costs something.
That is why many prefer:
-
Distance over devotion
-
Silence over sacrifice
-
Convenience over commitment
They still speak about love—but they withdraw from the actions that prove it.
A Call to Soul Care
In ministry, in family, in relationships, and in faith—
God is not impressed by how well we speak about love.
He is moved by how faithfully we live it.
At Soul Care Ministry, we believe healing begins when love becomes visible:
-
Listening when it’s easier to judge
-
Walking with people, not just praying over them
-
Showing compassion without conditions
Final Reflection
Trust can be broken.
Love, when lived in obedience to God, transforms both the giver and the receiver.
So let us correct the narrative:
The most expensive thing in this world is love—
because God demands that it must be lived, not merely spoken.
And the question God asks us today is not:
“Do you say you love?”
But:
“Where is the action that proves it?”
