The Christianity We Weren't Taught: Moving from Theory to Power
We live in a world saturated with words. From social media feeds to eloquent speeches, everyone has something to say. But when it comes to the Kingdom of God, words are simply not enough.
The Apostle Paul laid down a radical truth in 1 Corinthians 4:20: "For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power."
If your faith feels like a list of rules, a weekly routine, or a collection of nice philosophies, you are missing the core definition of the Kingdom. The Kingdom of God is not a debate club; it is a demonstration.
BRAZAARThe Trap of "Intellectual Christianity"
It is easy to fall into the trap of confusing theological knowledge with spiritual reality. You can read every book on revival, memorize Greek root words, and articulate complex doctrines perfectly, yet still live a life completely void of spiritual breakthrough.
Paul confronted this exact issue with the church in Corinth. They were arrogant, proud of their eloquence, and obsessed with human wisdom. But Paul challenged them by saying, essentially: “When I come, I don’t want to hear how well you speak. I want to see the power you have.”
True faith does not rest on human brilliance or catchy motivational speeches. It rests squarely on the active, moving power of the Holy Spirit.
What Does the Demonstration of Power Look Like?
When we think of "power," our minds often jump straight to dramatic miracles. While that is certainly part of it, the Bible shows us that God’s power manifests in three profound ways:
1. The Power of a Transformed Life
The greatest miracle is not a blind eye opening; it is a dead heart coming to life. When an addict is instantly set free, when a bitter heart genuinely forgives, or when someone trades deep-seated anxiety for supernatural peace—that is the raw power of the Kingdom. It breaks chains that human willpower cannot budge.
2. Signs, Wonders, and Miracles
Jesus did not just preach the Gospel; He healed the sick, cast out demons, and raised the dead. He told His disciples that those who believe would do the same. Miracles are the "eviction notices" of the Kingdom of God, proving that darkness must bow to the authority of Jesus.
3. Fearless Boldness
In Acts 4, after being threatened by the authorities, the early church did not pray for safety. They prayed for boldness—and God answered by shaking the physical building they were in. Kingdom power gives ordinary, flawed people the supernatural courage to stand up for truth and preach the Gospel without fear.
Shifting from Information to Demonstration
If the Kingdom is about power, why do so many believers feel powerless? Often, it is because we are relying on our own strength, resources, and intellect.
To see the power of God move in your life, you have to step out of your comfort zone.
- Stop just praying about your problems; start speaking to them with the authority given to you by Christ.
- Stop waiting for the "perfect moment" to share your faith; step out in faith and watch the Holy Spirit back you up.
- Expect the supernatural. Walk into your day knowing that the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives inside you.
The world is tired of hearing Christians talk. They are waiting to see a demonstration. It’s time to move past the words and step into the power.
