The Story of the Persistent Widow

In Luke 18:1–8, Jesus shares the parable of the persistent widow. In this story, a widow seeks justice from a judge who neither fears God nor respects people. Despite the judge's refusal, the widow keeps coming back, persistently asking for justice. Eventually, the judge grants her request—not because he is righteous, but because her persistence wears him down.

What Can We Learn?

1. Never Give Up in Prayer
   Jesus teaches us to pray continuously. The widow's determination reminds us that God values our persistence. Even when answers seem delayed, we should trust that God hears us.

2. Faith that Moves the Heart of God
   The widow believed justice would be served if she kept asking. Similarly, persistent faith pleases God. Jesus ends the parable by asking, “When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” This challenges us to hold on to faith even when it’s hard.

3. God is Just and Caring
   Unlike the unjust judge, God is compassionate. If even an unjust judge grants justice because of persistence, how much more will our loving God respond to His children’s cries?

Why Persistence Matters

Persistence shows our trust in God’s timing. It develops our character, deepens our faith, and aligns our hearts with His will. Sometimes, the waiting period is where God transforms us.

Ang Kwento ng Matiyagang Balo

Sa Lucas 18:1–8, ibinahagi ni Jesus ang talinghaga ng babaeng balo. Humihingi siya ng katarungan sa isang hukom na walang takot sa Diyos at walang galang sa tao. Kahit ilang ulit siyang tinanggihan, hindi siya sumuko. Sa huli, pinagbigyan siya ng hukom—hindi dahil sa kabutihan nito, kundi dahil sa kaniyang patuloy na paglapit.

Ano ang Matututuhan Natin?

1. Huwag Sumuko sa Panalangin
   Itinuturo ni Jesus na patuloy tayong manalangin. Ang determinasyon ng balo ay paalala na pinahahalagahan ng Diyos ang ating pagtitiyaga. Kahit mukhang matagal ang kasagutan, makakaasa tayong naririnig tayo ng Diyos.

2. Pananampalatayang Nakaaantig sa Diyos
   Naniniwala ang balo na makakamtan niya ang katarungan kung magpapatuloy siya. Ganoon din, nalulugod ang Diyos sa matiaga at matibay na pananampalataya. Tinatanong ni Jesus, “Pagdating ng Anak ng Tao, makakasumpong kaya Siya ng pananampalataya sa lupa?” Isang hamon ito na panatilihin ang pananampalataya kahit sa hirap.

3. Makatarungan at Maawain ang Diyos
   Hindi tulad ng di-makatarungang hukom, ang Diyos ay mapagmahal at makatarungan. Kung ang isang masamang hukom ay nagbibigay ng katarungan dahil sa pagtitiyaga, gaano pa kaya ang ating Diyos na mahabagin sa Kanyang mga anak?

Bakit Mahalaga ang Pagtitiyaga?

Ipinapakita ng pagtitiyaga ang ating pagtitiwala sa tamang oras ng Diyos. Sa panahon ng paghihintay, hinuhubog Niya ang ating karakter at pinapadalisay ang ating pananampalataya. Madalas, sa proseso ng paghihintay tayo higit na binabago ng Diyos.

The parable of the persistent widow reminds us that God honors unwavering faith and persistent prayer. He hears every prayer and answers in His perfect time. Let us remain faithful, never losing hope, and trusting that God’s justice will prevail.
